The purpose of the eulogy is to pay tribute to the deceased as a distinct individual, with unique talents and gifts, who will live on in the memories of the people who loved him. They have a lot of positive effect because something which is beautifully written and sensible expressed can actually have a soothing effect on the bereaving.
The family members must simply put into effect those details that have previously been decided. In this part of a tribute, the deceased person's life is summed up in a few paragraphs. Others might just read it during the wake or some may even refuse to share the composition to the crowd.
If you know the person very well and you would like to write it in your own words about that person, you could do that too. Your loved one is at home. The family is free to participate as much or little as they wish in the funeral.
Don't worry if it runs just a bit longer, take a deep breath and try to relax. Remember to prepare and organize your thoughts.
