dial and dudley funeral home - Funeral Basics

The purpose of the eulogy is to pay tribute to the deceased as a distinct individual, with unique talents and gifts, who will live on in the memories of the people who loved him. Each person develops their own personality and character as they go through life, this is what makes the person so special and unique.

The most common and sincere way of extending your sympathy is to say I am sorry to the bereaved for his loss. As much as the poem is written as a tribute to the deceased, it should also be considered as a reassurance to the living. Read through the funeral poem several times (out loud) before the funeral so that you feel comfortable with the words.

An obituary also contains a list of immediate survivors like children, grandchildren, spouse or siblings who were closely associated with the deceased. Nonverbal actions are equally important during funerals. Typically, a eulogy runs around five to ten minutes in length.

Above all, remember to breathe. Even though death is a sad event, eulogies should always be written in an uplifting and inspiring manner.
